    Silent Journey and Discovery

Have you ever wished you could experience a Montessori classroom the way your child does? Most of us did not attend Montessori school as children, and although we may read books written by Maria Montessori, attend parent gatherings and observe the classroom, all of which are extremely beneficial, the Silent Journey and Discovery offers a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves into the Montessori classroom environment in the way our children do.

On Friday night, November 9th, the Silent Journey, participants will walk through the Parent-Infant Community, Youngest Children’s Community, Children’s House, Early Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Adolescent Community environments. Materials will be laid out as they would be during the children's work, and participants will notice which materials call out to them. With the absence of children, the classrooms are the focus, and the experience is of the authentic Montessori prepared environment and how they engage the senses.

On Saturday, November 10th, the Discovery, participants retrace their steps of the previous evening, but this time Guides will be on hand to give lessons. Participants will have the opportunity to work with the materials of their choice.  The day ends with a discussion as we share our experience of the day and the new insights into the Montessori experience that it has brought.

    When
    : Friday, November 9, 2018, from 7 - 9 p.m. and Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Cost: $35 per person / $50 per couple (coffee and croissants, and lunch on Saturday included). Space is limited to 25 participants.

POSTPONED UNTIL FEB 13 Gaines Creek Parent Gathering

5677 Oak Blvd, Austin, TX 78735
Please join us on Wednesday, February 13, at 7 pm for an evening with local psychologist, Carl Pickhardt, Ph.D.  The topic for the evening is The Freedom Contract . Dr. Pickhardt writes, "A healthy adolescent is supposed to push for all the freedom to grow that he can get as soon as he can get it, and healthy parents are supposed to restrain that push within the interests of safety and responsibility."  Come to the meeting to hear more about how that can work in your family.

This event will include a presentation by Dr. Pickhardt, and a period for questions and answers.

Dr. Pickhardt is the author of several books including Surviving Your Child's Adolescence and he also writes a weekly blog for Psychology Today, "Surviving (your child's) Adolescence." We have found Dr. Pickhardt to be a wealth of information and practical advice for parenting and mentoring adolescents and we are excited to welcome him back to our school. We highly encourage you to attend this gathering
