The Special Senses and Communication Disorders Act mandates that all schools require a screening for possible acanthosis nigricans (diabetes screening), hearing, vision and spinal problems for children of the ages listed in the chart below.   
 
If your child’s pediatrician performs these screenings, it is not necessary to have the screening done at school. It is important to make sure we have a record of your child’s screening results in our files as well as updated immunization records.
