Why Give

At Austin Montessori School, peace and social justice are the foundation of our work.

  • From the youngest children's community through to the adolescent community, we model respect for the child, including how to talk about issues cordially and courteously.

From the elementary level and above, we empower children through our mediation process to express their anxieties, disappointment, and frustration productively while maintaining a sense of community. Our adolescents then take this experience, engage in the world outside the community, and are motivated and encouraged to effect change.

Peace is a natural outcome of Montessori scientific pedagogy. Peace is not a subject to be taught or a curriculum to add. Rather, peace education is intrinsic to the Montessori learning experience at any age. At Austin Montessori School, we create the conditions for concentration, freedom within limits, social cohesion, non-violent resolution of conflict, collaborative work, and positive, life-affirming social organization. We provide children and adolescents with a safe space to be themselves, make choices, engage with one another through purposeful work, and communicate their needs while also being mindful of the needs of those impacted by their words and behavior. These formative experiences cultivate empathy, respect, compassion, and engagement. These are the building blocks of the peaceful revolution Dr. Maria Montessori envisioned.
Austin Montessori School is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that keeps its tuition below expenses to make authentic Montessori education accessible to as many families as possible. Focusing our efforts on recruiting and then engaging a diverse population is crucial to fulfilling Dr. Montessori's vision of peace through human development.

Through gifts of time, talent, and resources, families show meaningful support of the school and our work. Volunteer opportunities are many through your engagement in school-wide events, supporting your child's classroom, and the Parents Association. Support of Austin Montessori's School's fundraising efforts is equally important.

Fundraising makes up the difference between covering basic costs and positioning Austin Montessori School to have the financial stability and flexibility that allows it to fulfill its mission and serve our families. We hope that every Austin Montessori family will contribute in ways that are meaningful for them.

The levels of support differ for each family, but the need for 100% participation is constant. We thank you for your help in fulfilling our mission!
